A Fine Line Between Strength And Weakness
We used to eat pasta with butter and pepper,
before I started missing meals, and comparing
my weight to that of the cat next door with cancer.
Before sit-ups became more important than
Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Before I became
a wolf with thin legs, then a blind sparrow.
The space between us grew. It was Greenland
then Russia. Our relationship become cold
as the harshest Siberian winter.
It’s taken a while for us to recognise each other,
but our spirits now are as strong as bison.
And when we touch each others hearts,
through that still healing wound, all there is to do
is smile and love, even if it hurts.
