The Highest Moments – New Poem

The highest moments

We don’t see moments of life,

we see through them.

Unlike the wolf,

whose every moment is complete

in itself.

We are scared of our highest moments,

we worry we are not lucky or talented,

that we don’t work hard enough

and come home too tired to eat.

The meaning of life

isn’t desires, goals or projects.

It isn’t the future, the day, month, or year after.

The meaning of life is now.

Now is messy. We need to climb in,

and not always peer around the corner.

Visions of the future are never secure.

They slip away like ghosts

and we chase after

but can never catch up.

Like the lone wolf,

on the outskirts of a town,

we ought to look but turn away and move on.
